When it comes to the modern day supermodel there is no one with a presence like Coco Rocha. She is the epitome of a supermodel– charming, sophisticated, poised, elegant, but most of all, a true individual.
Her discovery is also a rather one-of-a-kind incident after being spotted and approached at an Irish Dance Competition by Charles Stuart. Before being asked to model for Stuart, she had never given much thought to her prospects in the career and was rather uneducated about the industry and just who ruled it. Nevertheless, after cramming in study sessions Rocha became extremely knowledgeable about the industry and kicked off her professional career in 2004 by signing with SUPREME in New York City. It would be another two years before she was spotted by famed fashion photographer Steven Meisel and thrust into the spotlight alongside other darlings like Gemma Ward and Amanda Moore in a once-in-a-lifetime editorial for Vogue Italia in 2006. Following its publication, Rocha’s career accelerated and she made her debut during the 2006 Spring/Summer Fashion Week in New York City walking for top designers like Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs. Following her New York debut she ruled the Paris runways and graced even more big names like Christian LaCroix and Stella McCartney.
Since her time in the spotlight, Rocha’s career has been wonderfully successful as she continues to dominate the industry with her chameleon like ways. Particularly known for incorporating elements of movement, Rocha’s signature style is fast paced posing and energetic expressions while still delivering that extra fierce factor into each and every shot. Models.com has her ranked at #27 under the Money Girls category as well as being represented by eight different agencies all over the globe. Besides being highly sought after, Rocha has also accumulated a number of accolades and charity work. Just recently she was named Model of the Year in February 2014 at the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards and is an advocate for eating disorder awareness within the fashion industry.
