Model Monday: Lily Cole

Perhaps one of my earliest attractions that fixed my attention on the fashion industry and the models who dominate it, was none other than the British beauty Lily Cole. Like other featured models, Cole was spotted simply through fate and was approached by a scout while walking about in Soho. Originally, she declined the offer of modeling because of her belief that it would not amount to anything, but was she ever wrong! At the young age of 14 she changed her mind and was then signed with Storm Models in London. After building up an impressive portfolio she attracted the attention of notable fashion photographer Steven Meisel in 2003 and was catapulted into the spotlight after being the youngest model to ever grace the cover of British Vogue at age 16. Since then she has dominated the industry and has been featured on various Vogue covers from all over the globe as well as maintaining prominence as a favorite choice for the international runway circuit. Her list of clients include powerhouses like Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Christian Lacroix, and Moschino. Her signature red hair and baby doll face have set her as one of the most unique models of the early 2000’s.

Not only is Cole a talented model, but she has also made a considerable debut as an actress, with her most notable role being Valentina alongside the late Heath Ledger. Her performance was praised and and applauded for her abilities and talents alongside such seasoned stars. Cole is also quite the activist and has aligned herself with various charities, most notably concerning herself with environmental campaigning for which she has received public recognition for from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2013 after receiving the Doctor of Letters.

Perhaps one of my favorite editorials in American Vogue, above is Lilly Cole and Lady Gaga in Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs. The Hansel and Gretel inspired editorial had me burning for more from this lovely Londoner.

Another stunning shot of Cole who has proven her versatility. From haute and high fashion to fierce and stoic.

Cole featured in Harper’s Bazaar Turkey whose stormy sea-glass eye just makes this posh portrait truly remarkable work.
